Rebalance Rundown

It’s no seekret that the recent rebalance has thrown a wrench in many PvP-er’s Sinister Cup plans.

Not to worry. If there is one thing I’ve learned from meeting, speaking, or texting with these battlers, this is only a hiccup and will not stop them from finding the best of the best before battle time.

All that to say, let’s see who the biggest winners…AND the biggest losers are this go around.

The Winners

Let’s start with the big winners, shall we? Below we take a look at what some of the G2G PvP Fam has to say about each individual Winner and give you a short breakdown.

G2G’s Summary
With the addition of Fire Spin and Flame Wheel to Alolan Wak’s move pool, this makes our angry little buddy quite the force to be reckoned with, giving it a Fire-type STAB Fast Move and a 55 Energy Fire-type STAB Charged Move. If you don’t have one on hand, head out to raids with friends and grab a few, then flip them in trades!

Want some buttah on that Pancake? Alolan Raichu got a big boost to its PvP viability with the addition of its new Electric-type STAB Fast Move, Thunder Shock. But wait! There’s more! This pancake is a double-stack! Should you be lucky enough to have one with the legacy Psychic-type STAB Charged Move, Psychic, then Alolan Raichu is PvP must-have. Now, pass the syrup, please.

G2G’s Summary
Mawile is perchaps the most interesting Pokémon to receive a buff during this round move overhauls. Power-up Punch, while its damage got nerfed, it’s one stage attack buff will allow Bite, to actually be a decent Fast Move, even without STAB.

Shadow IconHopefully Mawile doesn’t take a look in the mirror b/c its Shadow Form is an Excellent Counter against itself.

Ummmm-bree-onnnn!

Umbreon used to be a tank that hit lightly, not anymore! With the addition of the high energy generation Fast Move, Snarl, Umbreon can now churn out Charged Moves at a MUCH higher rate, changing this Eeveelution from niche play tank, to must-have BEAST.

Psychic Users

All Psychic users won the move re-roll lottery, as Psychic is now a 90 damage 55 energy Charged Move. Here is a list of Great League eligible Psychic Users.

The Losers

It’s become the general consensus of most in the PvP world, as well as those of us at G2G that the biggest losers from this rebalance is anyone who had PuP prior to this re-roll.

May some of your greatness rest in peace Lucario, Hitmonchan, Poliwrath, and Medicham.

Power-up Punch, how we loved you! But now you have lost your punchiness. While the move is by no means useless (see Mawile), its overall effectiveness took a massive blow when its damage was cut in half. Yes, it will still buff those Fast Moves, but causing damage of its own? Not so much.

The Unknowns

Lastly, we offer you the UnKNOWN (not to be confused with Unown). These mons haven’t really been tested yet since it’s all about the Sinister Cup right now, but they have been effected by the rebalance. What the outcome is, has yet to be known.

Bubble Beam USERS

Bubble Beam got both ends of the bubble stick. It received an attack debuff, decreasing an opponents attack stat by one stage, but, it also got a power nerf, reducing its damage from 45 to 20.

What this means longterm is yet to be known, due to lack of testing, but here are the Pokémon that can learn Bubble Beam.

What the Graphics Fam Has for us

Fool Me Once

I guess one thing we can all take away from this experience is to plan, plan, plan…then spend spend spend right before it’s time to battle.

I’ve talked with a few folks in the PvP world who where quite thrown off guard by these updates. (I mean, who wouldn’t be) but luckily they’ve accepted the challenge and have come back FULL FORCE as you can see in the videos linked above!
