Trainers! Do you adore everything that’s red? Are you a passionate rat-lover? Yikes. Maybe you’re just feeling lucky? If the answer to any of those questions is yes, you’re in the right place!

Pokémon GO’s Lunar New Year Event is back, celebrating the Year of the Rat! There are some exciting features and bonuses waiting for you, so let’s take a look!


Pokémon GO Lunar New Year Event INFO
Start: Fri., January 24, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. PST
End: Monday, February 3, 2020, at 1:00 p.m. PST
Certain red Pokémon will be featured. Charmeleon, Vulpix, Parasect, Voltorb, Jynx, Magmar, Magikarp, Flareon, Slugma, Wurmple, Corphish, Kricketot, and Foongus will appear more frequently in the wild!
Gyashaa! Wild Gyarados appeared! If you’re lucky, you might spot a Gyarados in the wild. Will you be lucky enough to encounter the coveted red Shiny Gyarados?
Darumaka will hatch from 7 km Eggs. Some red Pokémon will be hatching from 7 km Eggs, such as Shuckle and Foongus. Making its Pokémon GO debut will be Darumaka, the Zen Charm Pokémon!

Gifts will have a chance of rewarding you with Rare Candies, so be sure to send and open lots of Gifts with your friends.
Be sure to trade more often with your friends—the likelihood of becoming Lucky Friends will be increased.
When you trade a Pokémon, there will be an increased chance it will become a Lucky Pokémon.

Lucky Trainers can encounter Gyarados in the wild, and if your luck is rocketing through the ceiling, you might even encounter a Shiny Gyarados! Below, you can find both its normal and shiny form for comparison. Red water dragon hype!

Lunar New Year Event Bonuses

Be sure to send and open some Gifts, Trainers! Gifts will have a chance of rewarding you with Rare Candies to power up those Pokémon!

Don’t forget to interact with your friends! During the event, Trainers have an increased chance of becoming Lucky Friends with each other! Battle, Raid, Trade, and Gift with your friends, you might be rewarded!
