December Community Day Move Analysis

The 2-day long December Community Day extravaganza is close at hand. We felt it was a good time to look at which Pokémon you should be focusing on, moveset wise, both for PvE and PvP. There’s a lot of candidates. Which ones will make the cut? Let’s find out!

PVE

BAGON / SHELGON / SALAMENCE
> >
FAST MOVE(S) CHARGED MOVE(S)
Dragon Tail Outrage
Salamence with Outrage is a beastly Dragon-type. Behind only Rayquaza in terms of pure DPS, Salamence is definitely a Pokémon you should focus on Raiding for and evolving during December Community Day. Salamence will get a mega evolution at some point.
MUDKIP / MARSHTOMP / SWAMPERT
>>
FAST MOVE(S)CHARGED MOVE(S)
Mud Shot
Water Gun
Hydro Cannon
Earthquake
Swampert is a king in PvP, but in PvE, it is also extremely useful. You can run it as a Water-type with Water Gun and Hydro Cannon or as a Ground-type with Mud Shot and Earthquake. Swampert will get a mega evolution at some point.
RHYHORN / RHYDON / RHYPERIOR
>>
FAST MOVE(S)CHARGED MOVE(S)
Smack Down
Mud-Slap
Rock Wrecker
Earthquake
Rock Wrecker Rhyperior is quite frankly, a monster. It’s relatively cheap, it’s powerful, and it’s a rock throwing demon. You can easily Fast TM it to run it two ways, both as a Rock-type and a Ground-type, but rock is generally the way to go here. Stock up on these, you will not regret it. Keep in mind you will need a Sinnoh Stone for each one you want to evolve.
TREECKO / GROVYLE / SCEPTILE
>>
FAST MOVE(S)CHARGED MOVE(S)
Fury Cutter
Bullet Seed
Frenzy Plant
Sceptile being included on this list may surprise some people, but it is very quietly one of the best Grass-types available and has the added bonus of having a Bug-type Fast move should you need that coverage. Sceptile will get a mega evolution at some point.
CHARMANDER / CHARMELEON / CHARIZARD
>>
FAST MOVE(S)CHARGED MOVE(S)
Dragon BreathDragon Claw
The name of the game here is Mega Charizard X. Dragon Breath Charizard X is one of the best Dragon-types in the game right now. You would be wise to evolve a handful of Charizard with Dragon Breath.
TORCHIC / COMBUSKEN / BLAZIKEN
>>
FAST MOVE(S)CHARGED MOVE(S)
Fire Spin
Blast Burn
Blast Burn took Blaziken from pretty good to very good in terms of Fire-type DPS. Burn baby burn is the theme here. Blaziken with its Community Day move is consistently near the top of the Fire-type charts.

PVP

MUDKIP / MARSHTOMP / SWAMPERT
>>
FAST MOVE(S)CHARGED MOVE(S)
Mud Shot
Hydro Cannon
Earthquake
Sludge Wave
Swampert is a PvP stalwart and for a good reason. It offers unique, hard-hitting coverage and multiple movesets that can be run. One thing will always remain the same, though, Hydro Cannon is a must.
MAGIKARP / GYARADOS
>
FAST MOVE(S)CHARGED MOVE(S)
Waterfall
Dragon Breath

Aqua Tail
Crunch

Gyarados getting Aqua Tail catapulted it from PvP also-ran to Pvp must-have. Aqua Tail is that good. While you good pair it with Twister instead of Crunch, that would be niche play and Crunch is the way to go most of the time.
WEEDLE / KAKUNA / BEEDRILL
>>
FAST MOVE(S)CHARGED MOVE(S)
Infestion
Poison Jab
Drill Run
Fell Stinger
Aerial Ace
Sludge Bomb
Beedrill offers some of the widest coverage available in PvP depending on the moveset you choose to run. You should definitely be catching, IV checking, and evolving your Weedle during December Community Day.
GASTLY / HAUNTER / GENGAR
>>
FAST MOVE(S)CHARGED MOVE(S)
HexShadow Punch
Shadow Ball
Sludge Bomb
Shadow Punch Gengar was one of the most anticipated PvP moves available during any Community Day and for good reason. It gives Gengar massive shield pressure ability. Shadow Punch baits out the shields, and then Shadow Ball or Sludge Bomb bring the boom.
PIPLUP / PRINPLUP / EMPOLEON
>>
FAST MOVE(S)CHARGED MOVE(S)
WaterfallHydro Cannon
Drill Peck
Flash Cannon
Empoleon was used in PvP prior to Hydro Cannon being introduced, but after it became a staple. Hydro Cannon, even when only dealing neutral damage, hits about as hard as Mike Tyson back in the day. Just don’t go biting any ears.
SEEDOT / NUZLEAF / SHIFTRY
>>
FAST MOVE(S)CHARGED MOVE(S)
Bullet SeedLeaf Blade
Foul Play
Shiftry had a decent, hard-hitting, and fast energy gaining move prior to its Community Day. Bullet Seed pushed it to another level though. Why? Coverage, you can choose to run Snarl or you could choose to run Bullet Seed, both have STAB and pair well with the Charge Moves of choice, Leaf Blade and Foul Play.
