2021 is now officially here, and with it, Pokémon GO has just announced a new in-game feature that has been teased in previous announcements! Collection Challenges have come to Pokémon GO! Let’s take a look at what that means.
WHAT ARE COLLECTION CHALLENGES?
Collection Challenges will bring a new and exciting way to make sure you take advantage of everything an in-game event has to offer. Housed in the Today View section, Collection Challenges will challenge you to catch all of the featured Pokémon during an event in exchange for rewards. Challenges will be time-limited and will disappear from Today View once the current event ends.
HOW TO COMPLETE THEM
- To get started on a Collection Challenge, open the Today View to see which Pokémon are part of that challenge.
- Each challenge will disappear once its corresponding in-game event ends, so do your best to collect all the Pokémon in the challenge before then!
- As you complete Collection Challenges featured in different in-game events, you’ll be able to earn rewards and add to your new Elite Collector medal!
UNOVA COLLECTION CHALLENGE
The Unova Celebration event will have the first Collection Challenge when it goes live and you may have already noticed the section for it in Today View!
During the Unova Celebration event, Trainers will be tasked with catching the following event-themed Pokémon:

Rewards for completing the Challenge for the Unova Celebration event include:
- 3,000 Stardust
- 30 Poke Balls
- 5 Rare Candy!
A WELCOMED CHALLENGE
The main thing to realize about this new feature is that while it’s not a game-altering feature release, it is a feature to help Trainers be able to fully experience everything events have to offer while getting some pretty nice rewards for doing so. It’s not something that has to be done, but you can complete these Challenges with some minimal effort, earn rewards, and start earning your Elite Collector Medal.
