ANIMATION RAIDS

5 STAR: AEROBLAST LUGIA

Lugia will return to raids (again), beginning Thursday, November 5th @ 1:00pm PST until Monday, November 16th @ 1:00pm PST (GMT -8). However, this time, the Diving Pokémon will know the exclusive move Aeroblast, a very powerful Flying-type Charged Attack! At last, we see Aeroblast Lugia, and it looks very promising Trainers! Make sure to hunt for a good IV Lugia, and who knows, you might even find a Shiny one!

In PvE, Lugia isn’t the most common Pokémon since it has a pretty low Attack stat. It does compensate for that with an insane amount of bulk. If you choose to run Lugia in Gym or Raid Battles, Aeroblast is definitely the way to go. It outperforms Sky Attack, so you should always go Aeroblast on your PvE Lugia. But to be honest, you shouldn’t go Lugia in Raids, unless you’re in a large lobby and are low on Revives/Potions.

In PvP, the story is somewhat different. While it is a fairly expensive move at 75 Energy, it does hit REALLY hard.

In Great League, it can have some experimental play, but the very versatile meta combined with an expensive Charged Move doesn’t really help it. It isn’t bad, but it’s probably not worth the effort. If you want to use Aeroblast Lugia in GL, you’ll need to have or trade for a level 15 (out of a Research Breakthrough) in order to be eligible, and you’ll have to use an Elite Charged TM on it. Worth it? We’ll leave that up to you.

In Ultra League, Lugia gains more shine than it does in Great League. It has the potential to threaten Swampert and Togekiss, but you’ll, of course, have to look out for the Ghost-types like Gengar and the UL king, Giratina. Again, it can be worth trying out, but it’ll not be meta changing. That doesn’t mean it can’t have play, cause it certainly will! Note that raiding Lugia during Windy weather will result in a Weatherboosted one, which is not eligible for Ultra League.

In Master League, Lugia benefits the most out of its high stat product. With an insane amount of bulk, it can easily come to a few ‘expensive’ Aeroblasts. However, it meets a lot of threats, so again it won’t define an existing or shape a new meta. This doesn’t mean you’ll have to take wins against Lugia teams for granted. Be prepared for the Diving Pokémon!

ANIMATION ANYWHERE?

The tie-in between the anime and Pokémon GO is awesome to see, and we can only hope more of this is to come! But let’s be honest, for a lot of Trainers, the appealing factor is the long-anticipated Aeroblast Lugia that is finally coming to Raids. No surprise, cause Aeroblast, is a great move, and Lugia is an AWESOME Pokémon, with a great looking Shiny.
