Pogo Trainer Gear

TEAM: Instinct

CLAIM TO FAME: Father/Son Homemade Consumer Goods

G2G: First, can you tell me your in-game Trainer name, level, and your favorite Pokémon? Is there a reason it is your favorite? Also, what do you do in your daily life?

Pogo Trainer Gear: My name is Nikko, and my son’s name is Nolan. Our in-game trainer names are 1TRNRNikko and 1TRNRNolan. Level 40. My favorite Pokémon is Charizard just because of the nostalgia and the hype around his card when they first came out. I also favored the Charmander line because of his episode in the rain… straight feels lol. Nolan’s favorite Pokémon is Gengar because he thinks he looks the coolest, and ghost is his favorite type. Lately, with COVID going on, my daily routine has been getting Nolan set up for school via Zoom and cooking up more Pokémon GO gear. I’ve also founded a clothing brand that has been going strong since 2011. It is pretty much a well-oiled machine that I’m grateful for since I can spend more time with my son.

G2G: What got you into Pokémon/Pokémon GO? Were you into Pokémon before GO was released? What do you like the most about Pokémon in general?

Pogo Trainer Gear: I always loved Pokémon since the anime aired in the US in 1998. I played Pokémon Red on the Gameboy when it came out and continued on with newer generations but, when Pokémon GO came out, it was years since I last played/watched/or was even into Pokémon. Nolan was actually the first one who initially wanted to download Pokémon GO after watching and getting into the anime on Netflix. It was a full-circle moment for me and definitely was a nostalgic feeling seeing Pokémon again AND in the real world like I always imagined as a kid. We’ve been hooked ever since.

G2G: Do you have a favorite feature in PoGO? PvP? Raiding? AR? Something else?

Pogo Trainer Gear: My favorite feature in Pokémon GO is traveling and learning about new areas or even areas you’ve always been around. Being able to explore cities via Pokémon Go gives you a little more info than just sightseeing. We also love raiding together with others in the community, especially now with Remote Raiding. We started #RemoteRaidWednesdays, where we raid with our followers and have been able to help out people who usually don’t get to do legendary raids. Lastly, we would have to say the GO Snapshot feature is one of our favs. We love seeing and capturing Pokémon in the real world.

G2G: What made you start creating Pokémon GO related merchandise? Was it something you always wanted to do or is there more to it?

Pogo Trainer Gear: We went to GO Fest in Chicago in 2018 and saw some Level 40 pins, but we weren’t able to find them online at the time. It inspired us to make our own. Gaining badges in Pokémon has always been a fulfilling feeling, so we wanted to recreate that. Also, I’ve been drawing Pokémon since I was 7 years old, so it was an easy call. This eventually led to us creating the first Pogo Trainer Bag. Being an active player, I knew some features that would really be beneficial to the grind like a built-in USB port for external batteries because we know how much Pogo drains batteries lol. We decided to recently switch names from Pogo Trainer Badges to Pogo Trainer Gear because we want to do a lot more items than just badges. For example, we just released our first “Team Trainer Tees,” and sometime next month are releasing “Team Trainer Flasks” shhhhhh. G2G Media exclusive! We have a lot more items cooking up; we want to be the one-stop-shop to enhance and benefit the Trainer experience/grind.

G2G: Is there anything else you want to share? Hidden talents, favorite item in your shop, anything at all?

Pogo Trainer Gear: Favorite item in the shop right now is definitely the “Team Trainer Tees,” but we do have some other Tees coming soon that are FIRE! Other than that, glad to be part of the G2G fam. I love the Pogo community and always am open to helping others with what I can, whether it being giveaways, getting pins made, remote raids, etc. Thanks for your time!

We love it when a Creator’s family is involved in their Pokémon GO passion, and Nikko and Nolan surely fit that bill. Father/Son duo for life!
