TRAINER LEVEL: 44
FAVORITE POKÉMON: BULBASAUR
CLAIM TO FAME: YOUTUBE/TWITCH
THE INTERVIEW - WONDER FROM DOWN UNDER
G2G: First, can you tell me your in-game Trainer name, level, and your favorite Pokémon? Is there a reason it is your favorite? Also, what do you do in your daily life?
Kriket: Sure thing. My in-game Trainer name is Kriket23, I’m level 44 (almost 45), and my favorite Pokémon is Bulbasaur. I love Bulbasaur because, in the first series of the Anime show, the Bulbasaur was protecting all of the sick and injured Pokémon at a rehab farm that Ash, Brock, and Misty stayed at. The Bulbasaur was so lovely and brave and took care of the other Pokémon. I just love its strong, kind spirit, and it will always be special to me.
In my daily life, I am a full-time content creator. I am a qualified Geologist and Yoga Therapist, worked in the Australian mining industry, and then ran my own natural therapies business. I left these industries and went all in as a full-time content creator to pursue what I love, which is film making and storytelling.
G2G: What got you into Pokémon/Pokémon GO? Were you into Pokémon before GO was released? If you had to pick a favorite feature in Pokémon GO, which one would you pick? I think I already know the answer, though, haha!
Kriket: I liked the Pokémon anime series and downloaded the mobile game on the first day it hit the app store back in July 2016. Pokémon GO was the first game I ever played that was my own adventure & I could play at my own pace.
I like to spend time outside and loved the concept of walking and gaming. I would regularly travel to new suburbs and nearby cities to hunt new Pokémon. I even taught my doggy to go for Pokémon walks and wait for me while I catch them!!
My favorite part of Pokémon GO is the way it facilitates friendships. I have met and made so many great new friendships thanks to the ease and happiness that catching a Pokémon brings people. Most players will smile and flash their catch screen up when catching a Pokémon, and it’s the easiest start to a conversation I’ve ever had! It has been a great journey to finding My People.
In-game, I love shinys!! Haha, but that is probably obvious, Yeewww!
G2G: What made you decide to start a YouTube channel for Pokémon GO videos? Was there any influence of other creators to take the step? How would you describe your style of video making?
Kriket: I was looking for connection and to find my community of people. I have volunteered in different groups and organizations for years but never found the people that truly related to me or felt like I belonged with. I realized my Aunty was experiencing similar feelings. She would also talk to me about her Epilepsy and how it made her feel uncomfortable or awkward in public situations sometimes.
I could relate to these feelings, but I found Pokémon GO really helped me. My desire to find my people and to show my Aunty a way to feel comfortable in public, I thought I could make videos to show her how to play, beautiful scenery, and all the nice, happy people I was meeting while playing Pokémon GO.
It was only after I started my YouTube channel that I met other creators. My doggy really enjoys watching Pkmn Master Holly, and I am humbled to call so many creators and players friends now. My experience of the Pokémon community has been truly wonderful and inclusive. I wouldn’t know what to call my style of vlogging! Happy, Hype, lots of excited energy! On a vlogging day, I get up, go out, catch up with people, have fun and try to remember to play the game and not just chat all day, hahaha!
I am big on creating and enjoying positive experiences together. Hence, the overall experience of time shared means more than catching the best Pokémon or being the best player in the group.
G2G: Do you have a specific goal with your channel and content? Something you really want to accomplish? It can be something non-Pokémon GO related as well!
Kriket: I am excited to travel overseas as soon as we can again!! I want to play and vlog in communities all over the world. I can’t wait to experience my first Pokémon GO Fest and Safari Zone overseas!
I would like my channel to be a place that inspires people to find their people and do what makes them happy. I love creating vlogs, meeting people, and telling stories through my Pokémon journey. I’m not the best player or the best at most things, but I give them a go, and I appreciate the experience.
I get a lot of joy out of vlogging and hope to show others you can be happy, feel comfortable in new situations and be part of something wonderful. I would love to see my channel grow and community grow, maybe even achieve a YouTube plaque someday! Overall I just want to keep doing what I love and keep meeting people that enjoy my content and can relate to my journey.
G2G: From what we can see, you really like Pokémon GO events. What’s your favorite event, and why? And on the contrary, which is your least favorite and why? What would you change to make it better?
Kriket: I like all of the Pokémon GO events. I enjoy playing all the new content and hunting the new shiny. It’s best when the events are free for everyone to participate in, and we can have races and set spares aside for trades. I had plans to travel to the St Louis Safari Zone as my first major Pokémon GO event and vlogging travel experience. Unfortunately, that was canceled, and I haven’t been able to travel to an international event yet. I am very much looking forward to my first international event experience.
In-game, I’d really love to see international trading. Since travel and community meetups aren’t an option for most parts of the world and that most people have a number of spare Pokémon for IV re-roll trades, I think it would be great to be able to trade these Pokémon with friends regardless of their location. Even if the shinys and regional exclusives were excluded, I would still have great enjoyment out of trading regular Pokémon with people I have connected with all over the world.
G2G: Is there anything else you want to share? Hidden talents? Thoughts about the current state of the game? Maybe some suggestions for Niantic from a dedicated player?
Kriket: My hidden talent is just that I am really happy for everyone. Through life, I have learned that I can find the light in just about every situation and be grateful for the experience and learning from it. I like to share this William Shakespeare quote with my community as something to remember, “The meaning of life is to find your gift. The purpose of life is to give it away.”
Thank you for the time and questions
