The Interview – The Lightning Round

G2G: First, can you tell me your in-game Trainer name, level, and your favorite Pokémon? Is there a reason it is your favorite? Also, what do you do in your daily life?

Kaito: My IGN is KaitoNolan and I’m level 40 (recently hit 200 million XP but I’m not an XP player).

My favorite Pokémon is Zam (obviously). I’ve always liked Psychic-, Ghost-, and Dark-type Pokémon. When I played the Gen 1 Main Series, Sabrina became my favorite Gym Leader, and I wanted to be like her. Then, when raids were introduced, Zam became a Level 3 Raid Boss and I became obsessed with soloing it.

In daily life, I’m a concept artist for an architecture firm. My job is quite demanding and I work 40 hours a week.

G2G: What got you into Pokémon/Pokémon GO? Were you into Pokémon before GO was released? What do you like the most about Pokémon in general? Do you have a favorite feature in PoGO?

Kaito: Yes I’ve played all Main Series and my fav is Gen 5 so I can’t wait for it to drop (Gen 5 Pokémon are super broken and can’t wait to max all of them out). I enjoy playing Pokémon cuz of typing and collecting. Just like I enjoy my unique Pokémon raid challenges, I love using non-meta Pokémon.

As for PoGO, I enjoy catching. Dust grinding is something I enjoy doing cuz I can max more Pokémon. I enjoy physically throwing balls cuz that’s the one thing the Main Series doesn’t have.

Raid challenges are my motivation to play and grinding dust. Like I said I have so many Pokémon I wanna max out. I love maxing out stuff most other people can’t even imagine lol. I was super into the old gym system and tearing down a Level 10 Gym alone was my passion. Then when raids started, naturally soloing Level 3’s became my passion, and short (wo)man raiding truly became my endgame.

My future goal is to inspire more people to try short man raids. It’s heartbreaking when people comment on my vids saying “I don’t have anyone to raid with.” This game is not rural friendly and hopefully, I can provide a little hope that they don’t need a lot of peeps to raid.

I wish more families would get into the short man raiding business!!! I love raiding with my badass kiddo! Our Azelf duo blew up and I got so many comments from kids saying their parents don’t play so they can’t play much… PoGO is not a very kid friendly game in the sense where your parents need to take you places to play. I hope that when parents see my vids, they may wanna give it a shot and do family duos or trios!

G2G: What made you start uploading Pokémon GO focused YouTube videos? Was it just something you wanted to do, or is there more to it?

Kaito: I started uploading cuz I wanted to inspire people. (and yes, I also wanted to brag about my accomplishments.) 😝

Back when I started, no one even cared about soloing a T3. Everyone was raiding Ttar and Legendaries. I wanted to show people what a team of six Pokémon can do, just like in the Main Series. Luckily, by the time people started showing interest in doing solos, my videos were already up and my Alakazam solo was the reason why I got the most exposure cuz it was very difficult back then. I’ve met so many people cuz of the Zam solo and when people say I inspire them to do this and that… I’m so happy!

G2G: Is there anything else you want to share?

Kaito: My three Mythical Pokémon are all 98%💁and I appreciate my nickname, Solo Queen. I’m so humbled people recognize me as an icon for solos and short (wo)man raiding.

The Solo Queen is quite literally a BadAss Mother… She is also one of the kindest individuals you will ever meet. We had the amazing honor of meeting the Queen in Chicago at GO Fest, and it was a memory we will never forget.
