Who hasn’t heard of the GoCast podcast? Coming in hot with updates, news, tips, and more every week, these two guys bring you everything you need to know about the world of Pokémon GO.
“These two guys you say? But who are they?” We at G2G had the pleasure to interview GoCast host Chris and his co-host Kyle for you guys, cause everyone deserves a little more GoCast in their lives. Enjoy!
THE INTERVIEW - 2 Guys 1 Podcast
G2G: First, can you tell me your in-game Trainer name, level, and your favorite Pokémon? Is there a reason it is your favorite? Also, what do you do in your daily life?
Chris: Hello! My name is Chris, and I’m a level 40 Pokémon GO Trainer by the name of ‘GoCastChris’. My favorite Pokémon is Cyndaquil as it was my preferred starter through my favorite generation of main-series games, Gold, Silver, and Crystal! When I’m not actively catching them all or podcasting about it, I am a Project Manager at a Digital Production company.
G2G: What got you into Pokémon/Pokémon GO? Were you into Pokémon before GO was released? What do you like the most about Pokémon in general? Do you have a favorite feature in PoGO?
Chris: I’ve been a lifelong Pokémon fan, so when I first heard about Pokémon GO, I was instantly on board. I was so excited, in fact, that I changed my app store to Australia to download it earlier than its release in my timezone!
The best part about Pokémon, generally, is that it has something to offer anyone. Pokémon appeals to collectors, battlers, communal and individual play, and so much more! Personally, my favorite aspect about Pokémon GO and Pokémon in general are the amazing communities and group efforts like raiding and Community Day!
G2G: What made you start making a Pokémon GO podcast?
Chris: Initially I just proposed the idea because I found the game to be infinitely fascinating. I had this gut feeling that there was going to be a LOT to discuss about this game in the future. It took a little convincing to get Kyle on board with the idea, but I’m confident he doesn’t regret it.
I used to podcast about a game called ‘League of Legends’ where the podcasting competition and fandom were difficult and unruly. It was a tough environment to grow a community. Thankfully, the Pokémon GO community was just so supportive and engaging that it’s carried GoCast to where it is now; on the cusp of 100 episodes!
G2G: You guys had some prominent Pokémon GO individuals on the podcast. Do you have a highlight, or an episode that sticks out for a particular reason?
Chris: This is such a tough question. We’ve been blessed to have so many lovely guests on our show and several coming back for a second or third time! One of the biggest highlights has to be when we invited Liz George on the show for an interview. We had so many questions to ask and she was nothing but gracious and an absolute joy to speak with.
G2G: Do you have any big plans with the podcast? Or any future goals or dreams?
Chris: I’d really like to continue growing our show so that it affords us additional opportunities to make different kinds of content. A video podcast has been a big goal of mine for years, in addition to growing a fundraising effort called “500 Raids of Summer” benefitting the National Park Foundation. More than anything, I’d like to get more than just a handful of folks to take up that cause this and/or next summer!
G2G: Is there anything else you want to share? Hidden talents? Thoughts about the current state of the game?
Chris: My opinion about the current state of the game is incredibly positive. Given the current state of the world, Niantic really stepped up to provide a silver lining that we all need right now. From adjusting the base mechanics to isolated play to keeping an ear to the ground for community feedback, I really couldn’t have asked for a better response! Thanks, Niantic crew!
A ‘fun’ fact about myself: I’ve performed in eight different musicals!
THE INTERVIEW - 2 Guys 1 Podcast
G2G: First, can you tell me your in-game Trainer name, level, and your favorite Pokémon? Is there a reason it is your favorite? Also, what do you do in your daily life?
Kyle: Hiya! My name is Kyle, I’m a level 40 Pokémon GO Trainer who goes by the name of ‘GoCastKyle’. My favorite Pokémon is definitely Gengar. I’ve always had a soft spot for Ghost Pokémon, and what better one to love than the original. When I’m not busy playing, I am a Supervisor at a coffee shop.
G2G: What got you into Pokémon/Pokémon GO? Were you into Pokémon before GO was released? What do you like the most about Pokémon in general? Do you have a favorite feature in PoGO?
Kyle: I’ve played Pokémon since Gen 1 came out when I was a young kid. I’ve played every generation since then, so Pokémon GO was a natural progression. My favorite part of Pokémon is how it has something that can appeal to everyone. As a kid, the collection aspect appealed the most to me, but now as an adult, the numbers and stats are more my taste.
My favorite feature of Pokémon GO is definitely the Raids and other community focused things of that nature. It’s always a joy to be able to connect with people using Pokémon GO as the catalyst.
G2G: What made you start making a Pokémon GO podcast?
Kyle: My co-host Chris and I worked together before making the podcast, and when he proposed the idea, I was definitely against it. “Who could do an hour talking about Pokémon GO every week?” is what I said at his proposal. Then I did my first Community Day and was sold. Now we even struggle to make sure our episodes aren’t TOO long each week. The community that has grown around the show really has been amazing, and I’m glad we get a choice to contribute to it.
G2G: You guys had some prominent Pokémon GO individuals on the podcast. Do you have a highlight, or an episode that sticks out for a particular reason?
Kyle: The one that stands out the most to me is definitely the episode we have with ZoëTwoDots. She was such a joy to have on the podcast. Her energy really made the whole experience. Plus her and I got to compete head-to-head in some trivia that Chris curated, and that is always going to be a highlight from the show for me.
G2G: Do you have any big plans with the podcast? Or any future goals or dreams?
Kyle: Chris and I have currently been doing a livestream of a playthrough of Pokémon Red together for one of our Patreon goals. It’s been incredibly fun, and I would love to expand on that and see where that goes. Otherwise, I’d continue to grow the podcast and have the opportunity to travel and meet more incredible people who play this game.
G2G: Is there anything else you want to share? Hidden talents? Thoughts about the current state of the game?
Kyle: With the current state of the world as well as the social nature of the game, Niantic has made some amazing strides to keep the game accessible and fun for its players. There have been some growing pains, but they have really been trying to adapt and change the game to accommodate as much as possible. It has been incredibly appreciated!
A fun fact I can share is that there is one other franchise that holds as much of a place in my heart as Pokémon: Power Rangers. I own a pretty much complete collection of all megazords and most figures for the first 19 or 20 seasons of Power Rangers!
POWER RANGERS: THE MUSICAL?
I’d say there’s potential. Who wouldn’t want to see that? Jokes aside now. GoCast hosts Chris and Kyle are two genuine, funny, and enjoyable guys with a heart of gold. It’s an absolute pleasure to listen to and watch two guys with a huge love for Pokémon GO, its community, and everything around it.
Keep on doing what you do guys, we can’t wait for new episodes and whatever the GoCast future might bring us!
